Six people died when an arsonist set fire to a building in Seoul then stabbed people as they fled. Five residents died after the killer attacked them as they ran out of the blazing lodging house in a poor district of the South Korean capital. A sixth died when she jumped from a fourth-floor window in a bid to escape the flames. South Korean police are seeking to arrest a 31-year-old man being held on suspicion of arson and homicide over the attack on Monday. Seven other people were injured in the stabbing rampage, most of them ethnic Koreans from China. All seven were kept in hospital until Tuesday. Many of the residents in the lodging house were Chinese women paying about £120 a month in rent and doing menial jobs in restaurants or at a nearby market.
