'Shift needed' in Afghan combat

The new commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, says their troops must make a cultural shift away from conventional warfare, and focus instead on protecting Afghan civilians.The Afghan government has repeatedly called for measures to cut the number of civilian casualties.The deputy commander of Nato-led forces in Afghanistan, Jim Dutton, said a "fundamental mindset change" had been taking place for some time and was now being reinforced under Gen McChrystal.
