A strike by thousands of screen writers is threatening to force prime-time US shows into meltdown.The walkouts have affected production on at least six prime-time comedy shows and TV networks say they will be forced to broadcast repeats if the strikes run for another week.Many stars have taken to the picket line to support the protesters, including the cast members of medical drama Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria.Robin Williams and Julianne Moore showed their support for the Hollywood writers' strike by joining them on the streets of New York.The strike by the 12,000-strong Writers Guild of America (WGA) began after a disagreement over royalties.The union is seeking extra payments for their work when it is re-used on other platforms such as DVDs, the internet and mobile phones.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
