Science teacher charged with pupil's attempted murder
A science teacher has been charged with the attempted murder of one of his students, police have said. Peter Harvey, 49, is accused of attacking 14-year-old Jack Waterhouse at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield on Wednesday morning. Harvey, of Rannoch Drive, Mansfield, will appear before the town's magistrates on Saturday morning, Nottinghamshire Police said. Jack was found by paramedics unconscious in a pool of blood at the entrance to a classroom in the school's science block at 11am on Wednesday. He is currently in a stable condition at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he is being treated for serious head injuries. "The school, the teachers and the parents are absolutely shocked. It was a trauma to all those involved," detective Superintendent Adrian Pearson said. "It was a full, lively classroom and I can understand the trauma to all the staff. Something like this is very, very rare and it's important to get to the truth of what has happened. "We have a full picture of what has taken place and so the welfare of the child and his family are the main concern."
