San Diego Chargers NFL Football Season Win Projection

From http://GamblersTelevision.com Tony T here from Gamblers Television covering the NFL "Vegas Style" all season long. The San Diego Chargers finished the 2007 regular season with an 11-5 record. They made the playoffs and beat Tennessee 17-6 in the Wildcard round and pulled off a 28-24 upset of the defending Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts in the divisional round as 10 ½ point underdogs. Then with injuries to starting quarterback Philip Rivers, stud running back Ladanian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates the Chargers lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Oddsmakers have set the projected win total for the San Diego Chargers 2008 regular season at 10 ½ wins. Schedule: The Chargers play in the AFC West and that means two games with Kansas City, Oakland and Denver. The AFC West plays the AFC East and NFC South this season and that brings road games at Buffalo and a trip to London to play as the visiting team against New Orleans. As the first place team in the AFC West last year they must play the 2 other first place teams from the AFC so they must travel to Pittsburgh and will host Indy. Offense: After a tough start head coach Norv Turner got this team peaking late in the season as the Chargers won 10 of their last 12 regular season games. Philip Rivers in his two seasons as a starting quarterback has led San Diego to a 25-7 record. The Chargers improved their receiving corps last season by acquiring Chris Chambers from the Dolphins and he was a good fit in the system. Vincent Jackson came on last season catching 41 passes and averaging over 15 yards per reception. In 3 playoff games he had 18 catches for 300 yards and 2 TD's and that was against quality opposition. And don't forget Antonio Gates at tight end whose toe is doing well in rehab and will be ready for the season opener. LaDainian Tomlinson is coming off a year where he gained over 1400 yards on the ground and is one of the best backs in the league. LT also had 475 yards receiving in from the backfield last season. With Michael Turner gone in free agency Darren Sproles and rookie Jacob Hester out of LSU will compete for carries in relief. Defense: The Chargers drafted the top cover corner from College Football Antoine Cason #1 from Arizona. When the top cover corner comes from a passing conference with good receivers and quarterbacks like the Pac 10 you know you are pretty damn good. The Chargers play a 3-4 and have a solid defensive line with Igor Olshansky, Luis Castillo and Jamal Williams. Shawne Merriman registered 12 ½ sacks last season and leads a talented corps of linebackers. The Chargers greatly improved the secondary by adding Cason to a unit who bring back 3 of their 4 starters from last season. The Chargers registered 30 interceptions a year ago and had 10 by Antonio Cromartie who returns. Quentin Jammer has improved as a cover corner and the Chargers also have depth behind their starters. Special Teams: Quick note on special teams as the Chargers employ the most accurate placekicker in the league over the past 3 seasons in Nate Kaeding and a punter who over the past 4 seasons led the league in net average, punts inside the 20 yard line and had the fewest punts not returned. And now to my Selection: The team improved once they go accustomed to Norv Turners system. The team went 12-3 over their past 15 games including the post season and have all of their impact players back With good health this squad will win the AFC West and will compete for a Super Bowl berth. Play the San Diego Chargers over 10 ½ wins for the 2008 season. Selection: Play San Diego over 10 ½ wins in 2008 Regular Season.
