Sam Sero - Refuge

In a dangerous and oppressive world, one must take refuge in order to survive. Paralyzed by paranoia, Jakob Lyons (Brendan Lawler) seeks comfort and safety by living underneath a coffee table in his living room. Under the threat of anonymous phone calls, unexplainable pieces of gum, and watchful snipers, Jakob and his coworker, Bob Flaherety (Colin Lenton) must come to terms with themselves as they struggle to cope and discover the truth of who's out there and what they want. As the paranoia devours them, the real questions begin. Who is to trust? Who is watching them? Why? But most importantly, IS there really anyone watching them? Or is it all in their minds? In this era, there is no line between reality and absurdity. This film is meant to be viewed like an ink blot test therapists use to test on their patients. We have heard many interprutations of what this film means and with this film, anything goes. Is there really someone watching Jakob and Bob? Are they crazy? Some people feel this film is about modern day capitalist society and the effect it has on the regular American working man. Others believe this is a story about Big Brother watching over all of us while others believe Bob is just a figment of Jakob's imagination. The truth will never be revealed. It is up to the audience to determine what this film is about. This film is like a painting. Many people look at it differently.
