Mitt Romney Town Hall Meeting Amherst, NH 11/24/07 TRANSCRIPT: MITT ROMNEY: I'm pleased that over these past several months Gen Petraeus and the President and others have worked together to find a way to reject what's happening in Iraq with al-Qaeda trying to play a stronger and stronger role. Instead, the troop surge together with the Sunnis there have helped reject al-Qaeda. It's gotten so tough for al-Qaeda that Osama bin-Laden got on the TV, you saw him there with his tape, saying all of his allies come to Iraq, this is the central battlefield. We're winning. The surge is working. Far from what Harry Reid said. He said we lost in Iraq. Baloney. We knocked out Saddam Hussein and his military and our surge is now working and we are helping them reject al-Qaeda. What is intolerable and unnacceptable to us is if Iraq became a safe haven.
