Prescott to quit as Deputy PM

John Prescott has announced that he will quit as Labour's deputy leader before the next party conference.Mr Prescott also apologised for letting the party down at the close of the party's Manchester conference after revelations of an affair broke earlier this year.He told delegates: "I know in the last year, I let myself down, I let you down. So conference, I just want to say sorry."This will be my last conference as your deputy leader. Thank you for electing me and thank you for all the support over the last 12 years."Mr Prescott went on to urge his party to form an "orderly" transition in electing a new leader and deputy leader. It is thought that he will quit at the same time as Tony Blair stands down as Prime Minister.
