The world's largest trade fair for books, the Frankfurt Book Fair, opens on October 15. German publishers are usually there to buy rights to books rather than to sell them. Analysts say that's because German books don't sell well abroad, especially when it comes to literature. But things are a bit different for specialist books, particularly cookbooks. The fact that German cookbooks are very successful can be attributed to Chef Georg Kessler of Gräfe and Unzer publishers. The company has a nearly 300 year history and is at the top of the guidebook market. Headquartered in Munich, it also produces premier cookbooks. Manuela Kasper-Claridge meets publisher Georg Kessler, whose cookbooks are bestsellers around the globe.
