Opinion polls show that Prime Minister Gordon Brown's honeymoon with the voters may be ending, which has led to speculation that the motivation for his policy of withdrawing British troops from Basra in Iraq is part of a plan for an autumn election. Meanwhile, Mr Brown has acquired two Conservative MPs and a Liberal Democrat to become Government advisors. Patrick Mercer and John Bercow will keep their party whip, but they wil also offer administration advice on security and childrens issues.
