The Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, expressed his anger at a senior Labour MP who appeared to liken the Government's position on the new European Union treaty with appeasement of the Nazis. The MP, Michael Connarty, said he had visions of "Peace in our time" : a reference to Neville Chamberlain's agreement with Adolf Hitler. Miliband, whose family fled the Holocaust, said the remark had cut him to the quick.
