Chancellor Alistair Darling has had his first go at revealing the direction of the economy under Prime Minister Gordon Brown's new look Labour. However, some of his spending plans for the next 3 years appear to be taken from the opposition's most popular policies. In his first Pre-Budget Report, Darling announced he was raising the inheritance tax threshold, as the Conservatives had promised, although not as high. He also said he would target the rich non-domicile residents who evade paying tax in the UK.
