POLITICS: Attorney General denies reports that Serious Fraud Office to be disbanded

The Attorney General has denied reports that the Serious Fraud Office is to be disbanded. The Guardian newspaper suggested he favoured merging its operations with those of other agencies. Relations between Lord Gordsmiths office and the SFO are already strained: three months ago the government insisted the agency abandon its two year investigation into fraud allegations linked to a BAE systems contract with Saudi Arabia.
