Police appeal over dead baby

Police appeal over dead baby

Police have appealed for a mother to come forward after a newborn baby was found dead at a recycling plant. A worker at the centre in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, made the find at about 7.30am on Wednesday. Detectives said they were treating the death as suspicious. Detective Inspector Jim McCrorie said: "Our thoughts have turned to the mother of this baby and we are concerned that she may need some help. "We are urging her to go to her local hospital to get the attention she may need. It may be that she wants to speak to officers who are looking into the baby's death." Det Insp McCrorie said the recycling plant takes waste from around the Peterborough area and throughout the Midlands. He said it was too early to say where the baby was from, how long it had been there or whether it was a boy or a girl. Post-mortem tests are being carried at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. Anyone with information is asked to call Cambridgeshire police on 0845 456 4564 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
