Members of the United States Air Force have taken centre stage at Las Palmas airfield outside Lima where pilots executed some top gun manoeuvres in a joint operation with their Peruvian counterparts. US made F-16's, Russian made MIG 29's and French Mirage 200 were in the air performing manoeuvres at Las Palmas air base on the outskirts of Lima on Saturday (February 17). The "Halcon-Condor 2007" exercises are a coordinated effort by the US and Peruvian governments to exchange technical information in a constructive one-on-one basis. The crowds of people at the air base were riveted as the F-16's roared overhead performing difficult top gun aerial moves. "It's another opportunity for us to share the knowledge that we know through aviation and then just demonstrate the great things that aviation has to bring to the people of Peru," said U.S Air Force Major Russ T. Piggott. Members of Peru's air force flew their Russian made MIGs and Mirages to demonstrate their capabilities to the visiting Americans. "The three planes have similar characteristics in that they are all combat fighters," said Peruvian air force Colonel Antonio Garcia. The joint exercises will continue over the next two weeks.
