
BOSTON (AP) - The state is holding a day-long "hunger summit" at UMass-Boston in an effort to develop solutions to the problem. Gov. Deval Patrick, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and U.S. Rep. James McGovern were among the early speakers on Thursday. Afterward, there were panel discussions featuring food and nutrition experts from across the state and nation. The governor has already pledged to end homelessness in Massachusetts. The hunger summit aims to expand that vow by identifying the best practices and making recommendations for reducing hunger. read more
