No one in the state of Mecklenburg expected it. The local airport is suddenly crowded with Chinese government officials. Mr. Pang has taken over the former military airport and renamed it "Parchim International". He has big plans. Parchim is to become not only China's center for exports to northern Europe and to Africa, but also a showcase for Chinese industry. The small town halfway between Hamburg and Berlin is changing fast. Holger Trzeczak was there to ask: Who is Mr. Pang, the man who is raising employment hopes in the eastern German hinterland.
