In March 2008, Derek McMinn assembled his surgical team and they travelled to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to participate in Operation Walk. Operation Walk is a non-profit organisation that provides hip and knee replacement for patients suffering from arthritis or traumatic injuries in developing countries. The team is made up of volunteer surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and physical therapists. One component of Operation walk is education. Each team member teaches his or her counterpart in the country they are helping; they teach procedures as simple as proper hand washing to anaesthesia and surgical techniques. They also instruct patients and their families on proper care and therapy to maximise recovery time. These trips are made possible by the generosity of companies and private donors who supply all the goods needed to make these trips possible. Here, Derek McMinn's surgical team describe the trip to Vietnam and their experiences from it. This video is split into 2 parts.
