Online Dating Meets Social Networking at TechCrunch50 Start-up MIXTT

Author: Added: 09/15/2008 Duration:180.187 http://www.beet.tv/2008/09/online-dating-m.html MIXTT, which has dubbed itself "The Social Network for you Social Life," isn't another Facebook or MySpace, according to founder and CEO Eve Peters. The site is geared toward meeting new people and offline interaction, and profiles are for groups of friends rather than individuals, she says. Instead of poking or sheep throwing, users can use the "Ask Out" feature to make plans with another group. Start-up veteran Don Dodge, who served as one of the judges, gave positive feedback but recommended Peters turn her concept into an application that could work within preexisting social networks. (To read more of the judges comments or watch the presentation, check out the coverage by TechCrunch here.) Peters took the advice to heart: "We were already planning to build a companion Facebook application, but we're now probably going to prioritize that even more," she told me. --Kelsey Blodget, Associate Producer
