One man has been killed and another seriously injured in a robbery at a driver recruitment agency. The offices, in Pontypool, south Wales, were also set alight in the incident and a further two men at the scene suffered the effects of breathing in smoke. Gwent Police are still hunting for the offender. The incident happened at the Driver Line 247 recruitment agency, based on an industrial estate on New Road, in the New Inn area of the town. A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Apparently it was a robbery which ended up with the building set alight. "One middle-aged male died at the scene. One other male has been conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, with serious injuries. Two other males suffered from smoke inhalation and have also gone to the hospital." A hospital spokesman said all three injured men were in a stable condition in the hospital's A and E department. Gwent Police would not comment on the injuries of either the dead man or the seriously injured man. A force spokeswoman said: "Gwent Police are dealing with the situation and inquiries are being made to locate the offender, who made off from the scene." New Inn councillor Graham Smith said he was shocked to hear about the incident. He said: "New Inn is a quiet residential area which is mainly pretty peaceful." Forensic officers and a police sniffer dog are currently examining the offices at the South Pontypool Industrial Park and Torfaen Business Centre. There were no obvious signs of fire at the two-storey building. Driver Line 247's website describes the company as "an honest and highly successful employment agency, finding people temporary and permanent jobs in the driving industry".
