(NECN: Ally Donnelly, Providence, R.I.) - Federal health officials believe more than 5.5 million Americans could have been infected with the H1N1 virus in the pandemic's first few months. In Rhode Island, officials confirmed a 12-year-old girl who died Monday had swine flu. Victoria Souza of Bristol had been named Little Miss Fourth of July for her hometown's popular parade. But she contracted the H1N1 virus and passed away. "Devastated. Terribly saddened by this turn of events, it's heartbreaking," family friend Frank McMahon said. read more
