
(NECN) - President-elect Barack Obama this afternoon formally introduced Virginia Governor Tim Kaine as the next Democratic Party chairman. The two appeared together at a news conference at national party headquarters. Kaine is succeeding outgoing chairman Howard Dean. The former Vermont governor is stepping down on January 21st after one four-year term. The new DNC chief will be responsible for retiring the party's $15 million dollar debt from last November's election. He also will be tasked with reinforcing the message of the new Democratic administration and Congress. read more
