News segment from New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV) for September 13, 2007: update on the Human Rights Torch Rally: The race started in Athens and will be traveling the world ahead of the Beijing Olympics next summer to bring awareness to China's human rights record. NtdS Cristina Furman reports. On September 10th the International Human Rights Torch Relay reached Romania. After starting on August 9th in Athens and going through Germany, and Czech Republic the Torch Relay had symbolically reached Timisoara, the Romanian city where the Communist Revolution of 1989 started. The torch was lit in Piata Maria the city square where the revolution started, and carried out by volunteer citizens to Piata Unirii (Union Square). Supported by the local city hall and the major himself, Gheorghe Ciuhandu, the event continued into the night with a program of speeches and movies about the persecution and organ harvesting. In Romania, a former communist ruled country, the Chinese authorities have played an important role in controlling democratic activities especially those related to the observance of human rights in China. The people in the streets have shown a lot of support and help to stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China before the start of the Olympic Games, because they understood very well that crimes against humanity cannot coexist with the Olympic spirit. On 11th of September the Torch went to Vienna continuing the human rights relay in the next European country out of the total of 37 which had already announced their participation across 5 continents marching to democracy.
