Northern Ireland: Former RUC Chief Constable denies collusion allegations

Former RUC Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan has denied that he knew about collusion between police under his command and loyalist paramilitaries. A damning report by the Northern Ireland police ombudsman has said paramilitary informers who killed up to fifteen people between 1991 and 2003, were protected by their Special Branch handlers. Sir Ronnie Flanagan is now facing calls to stand down as Her Majesty's chief inspector of Constabulary. In a statement, he said he had co-operated fully with the inquiry and hoped any of his officers who were involved in collusion would be prosecuted.
