If the New York Giants are to repeat as Super Bowl Champions they will have to do so without their sack leader from a year ago. Terrible news has hit Giants camp, as defensive end Osi Umenyiora will miss the season. The pro bowler was hurt in the Giants preseason game with the NY Jets on Saturday and will face season ending surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. Umenyiora will have his surgery on Tuesday and team doctors are reporting that the recovering time will take 4 months. The Giants will start the season with new starters at the left and right defensive end position as the team lost Michael Strahan in the offseason to retirement. But a report by the Associated Press came Monday night that the Giants have reached out to Michael Strahan about returning to the team. The talks were reportedly in the early stages. San Diego Chargers star linebacker Shawn Merriman revealed over the weekend that he has 2 torn ligaments in his left knee. The Pro Bowl linebacker has been visiting many specialists and plans to visit more to determine the course of action. There is a possibility that he may play through the injuries or face season ending surgery. The Oakland Raiders thin receiving corps got even slimmer as Drew Carter will miss the regular season with a torn ACL. The 5th year wide out from Ohio St suffered the knee injury during the Raiders preseason game against Arizona on Saturday. Carter was in the running for the starting wide receiver position opposite Javon Walker prior to sustaining his injury. That will do it for today's NFL injury report.
