New warning that melting glaciers will put lives at risk

Scientists are warning that glaciers in Greenland are melting rapidly, and say it could put at risk the lives of millions of people living in coastal areas. They say the accelerated melting suggests sea levels could rise across the world, threatening millions who live in coastal cities. The information comes just months before a United Nations climate summit meeting in Copenhagen to draw up a pact that will succeed the Kyoto protocol. That binds 37 industrial countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2 per cent by 2012. The British, Danish, French and Swedish Foreign Ministers are meeting to stress the importance of reaching a deal in December.
