The number of temporary agency staff in Germany reached a high point in the middle of 2008. Business was booming along with the German economy. But then the crisis hit and to demand for temporary staff shrank by 40 percent. Many agencies have been hit hard. There are some 8000 such companies in Germany. Tina Voss runs one of them. Last year she had a turnover of some 13 million euros, 25 percent up on the year before. But for months the number of contracts has been shrinking. The 39 year old says she can still get by on the money she made over recent years. But she has fired 120 of her 550 staff. At the moment she is working on new ideas for the employment market.
