National Geographic Drives Traffic with User-Generated Content Initiatives

Author: Added: 10/09/2008 Duration:137.671 http://www.beet.tv/2008/10/national-geogra.html User-generated content plays a central role in National Geographic's dynamic multimedia platform, Senior VP for online content development Rob Covey told me at the Omma Global conference last month. Users can now share their own videos on the user-generated video hub Everyday Explorers, built with online community builder KickApps and recently launched in beta. Covey gave a presentation at the conference about how National Geographic is successfully adapting to the digital world; initiatives like the site's "My Shot, Your Shot" photo-sharing community and World Music Hub have helped drive online traffic. Covey says they are planning to build interesting applications with the user-generated content to create a more interactive experience. --Kelsey Blodget, Associate Producer
