Muse have been named best act in the world today, beating Oasis to the Q Awards top prize this year. The Mancunian band were also tipped to beat the likes of the Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay, despite splitting in August following the departure of guitarist Noel Gallagher. They also missed out in the best live act category, which was scooped by the Arctic Monkeys, following a battle with acts such as U2, Blur and Take That. Florence & The Machine was one of the leaders in the nominations with three nods, including breakthrough artist, best video and best album, but left empty-handed. Lady GaGa's catchy Just Dance won best video, but she was beaten in the breakthrough artist category by Mr Hudson. Lily Allen won best track for her hit The Fear and indie rockers Kasabian beat acts including Arctic Monkeys, U2 and The Prodigy to win best album for the Mercury Prize-nominated West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Spandau Ballet, who recently got back together, received the Q idol gong and Edwyn Collins was named a Q legend.
