MPs' expenses: Tony McNulty says sorry for £13,837 claim

Former Labour minister Tony McNulty has become the latest MP to stand up and say sorry for excessive expenses claims. He has apologised in the Commons and promised to repay £13,837 in second home allowances. Mr McNulty said: "I apologise for any part I have played in the diminution of the standing of this House in the eyes of the public. "It is, however, time to move on. I apologise to the House once again without reservation." Behind him was former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, who earlier this month made her own apology to Parliament over her expenses claims. Mr McNulty claimed the cash on a house where his parents live, a few miles away from his main home in London.
