Monty 'did not expect' wild card

Colin Montgomerie does not believe he came close to a wild card pick for Europe's Ryder Cup team. Europe captain Nick Faldo chose Ian Poulter and Paul Casey to add to his ten automatic qualifiers and Montgomerie will miss the competition for the first time since 1991. The Scot was considered for a place on the team because he has never lost a singles match in the Ryder Cup but he believes there were plenty of other players ahead of him in the queue. Montgomerie said: "I do feel I have not played my last Ryder Cup, but I have to get my consistent game back. "It will be harder next time, so I have to raise the bar as well. But I am determined to do that. "Always you hope you might get picked because we all know what credentials I can bring to the Ryder Cup, but I think I was even fourth or fifth on the list."
