British singing sensation Katie Melua refuses to become obsessed with 'breaking' America, she has claimed. The 21-year-old has had huge success in the UK and can even claim the Queen one of her fans, but she insists she is not desperate for global fame. Katie's latest album, Piece by Piece, has sold over 2.5 million copies in Europe alone with her debut offering, Call Off The Search, going multi-platinum. The singer is currently promoting her new album in the US. She says: 'There are a lot of artists who get into their heads that you have to break it in America. 'I think you shouldn't look at it that way, you know, just come over here and do your best and see how it goes.' Katie is incredibly modest for a girl with such an impressive CV - she has previously performed for Nelson Mandela and rocked with legendary rockers Queen. Katie is never seen in gossip magazines for her latest outfit misfit, latest fling or promoting a range of clothes - this is because she wants to keep it about her music, nothing else. She confessed: 'I try not to do too many interviews. I try to just do enough where people get to hear my music. 'I don't know if it's very necessary to sell your image and personality along with your music.' She continued: 'For song writing I think it's important that I can remain a stranger to some people. 'I want to be able to associate with everybody and you need that for song writing and to gain inspiration.'
