Tonight Ichfunktion will be playing in the Eimer, starting in 10 minutes from now. [Aljoscha Rompe] We are here at the Wydok Club, located at Schnhauser Allee 5. [Girl] Wydoks is an association of independent people who are simply acting against being ruled by some kind of 'money people'. One of our actions was standing for the local elections. [2001] [AGP] I was sitting with Aljoscha in the Rechenberg. He said 'We have to make a political party now, and we'll need a name'. So we began scribbling hieroglyphics on beer-mats. [F.] [reading] 'Who are the Wydoks? Where they came from no-one exactly knows. At some time they turned up on the territory of the former GDR, and settled on the formerly publicly owned soil - we're asking everyone to take over houses, as long as they're still publicly owned, as they belong to you! This is your last chance, this is OUR last chance of being autonomous and stay that way. We need our own concert-halls, cafs, pubs, and cinemas. We need our own law-firms, in order to take action against the net of intrigues around us. And we need our own deputies.' It's hard to believe that we had seriously assumed having our own cafs and pubs would allow us to make things different. That was naive and charming at the same time. [AGP] 'Alternative Leftist List' on top, followed by 'Wydoks Autonomous Action', then 'Diabetics' Association'... [F.] Pretty much involved! [AGP] ... and us on No.2. We found all of that very amusing. Tacheles (-squat) was also involved. I stood there on a rostrum, speakers' corner-kind of thing. People gathering around found it extremely funny that I was standing there, the rock musican. [F.] But it lead to nothing, as people all had their own worries at the time - so why be interested in the Wydoks? We got 2,200 or so votes. We originally did not intend to be incorporated into the Federal Republic of Germany, but rather have an autonomous, odd country of our own. Until the spring of 1990 we still believed that this would somehow come true.
