US actor Tom Cruise has been given the green light to be the star of the next film in the Mission Impossible franchise.Sumner Redstone, the executive chairman and controlling shareholder of Viacom has given his approval for talks to begin. Viacom is the parent company of Paramount, whom Cruise has fallen out with.The actor held a long-standing, very lucrative production deal until it ended two years ago. Paramount kicked him off the studio lot and ending their 14-year relationship in August 2006.So there could be the chance for reconciliation, although the final decision to re-cast Tom as action hero, Ethan Hunt, lies in the hands of the president of Paramount.
