The shop is really humming and all of the artists are keeping busy. But just when Miami Ink is finally on its feet, they suffer a great setback: Darren has broken his elbow, and the doctor has estimated that he will not be able to tattoo for 8 weeks. Ami calls in a guest artist, Kat Von D, who is a colleague of Garver's from LA, to help cover their growing clientele. Kat is in Finland and in the middle of tattooing her friend Bam Margera when she gets the call from Ami. She agrees to fly all the way from Finland to Miami to help out the shop. Garver takes over on Darren's new client, Mike, who comes in to have his daughter's survival over cancer immortalized on his skin. Diagnosed at only 3, the young girl bravely endured years of treatment and is now a healthy 9-year-old. Garver draws young Krista as a superhero striking a cancer cell and the entire family comes in to see the inking. Meanwhile, Kat's first client is Sophia, who gets a tattoo of a navy pin-up girl in honor of her seaman father. She is thrilled with Kat's work, and the two women bond over art and music. Jon is a firefighter with great passion and respect for his profession. He wants to show respect to the fallen firemen of 9/11 by having a memorial insignia tattooed on his calf. Neomar's wife, Carrie, is a loyal customer of Nunez, so he has come to him to have a snake put on his arm by him.
