Broadcaster Channel 4 has been accused by the police and the Crown Prosecution Service of 'completely distorting' the words of muslim preachers in an undercover documentary about extremism broadcast in January 2007. West Midlands Police say that after investigating whether any offences had been committed by the preachers, whom Channel 4 accused of making hateful comments about non-Muslims, they examined the programme-makers' actions. They are alleged to have edited the documentary in a way that changed the meaning of the preachers' comments. No charges are to be brought, but the police have made a complaint to the broadcasting watchdog Ofcom. Channel 4 deny the allegations, saying the police have provided no evidence or examples to support their claim.
