Sin Nombre won both the cinematography and directing awards at Sundance this year, putting it in the spotlight even after it received quite a bit of early buzz from screenings. Focus Features has debuted the official trailer below and it really does look pretty damn good, along the lines of Slumdog Millionaire, but about crossing borders instead. I'm hoping to catch it soon, as its due out in theaters in March, and is definitely worth a look if this is your kind of movie. From Owen Gleiberman's Sundance review at Entertainment Weekly: "The situations are colorful, but the characters have a touch of the generic, and so it's hard to get too invested in them." Hope you enjoy! Sin Nombre tells the story of Sayra (Paulina Gaitan), a teenager living in Honduras, and hungering for a brighter future. A reunion with her long-estranged father gives Sayra her only real option - emigrating with her father and her uncle into Mexico and then the United States, where her father has a new family. Meanwhile, Casper, a.k.a. Willy (Edgar Flores), is a teenager living in Tapachula, Mexico, and facing an uncertain future. A member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang brotherhood, he has just brought to the Mara a new recruit, 12-year-old Smiley (Kristyan Ferrer), who undergoes a rough initiation. Sin Nombre is written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Cary Fukunaga, of only a few award winning shorts previously. This first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and is being distributed by Focus Features in the US. Sin Nombre will hit limited theaters on March 20th.
