Iraq's Shia Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has begun his first visit to the heartland of the Sunni Arab insurgency.Mr Maliki is meeting tribal leaders, local government officials and commanders of Iraqi and US security forces in the western city of Ramadi, the capital of the Anbar province, 68 miles west of Baghdad. His key meeting will be with Sheikh Abdul Sattar - the man who is leading an extraordinary tribal war against al-Qaeda, which has controlled the province for the last three years. The highly symbolic visit comes as thousands of US and Iraqi troops are being deployed in Baghdad in a security plan that is seen as the last chance to avert a civil war.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
