Malibu wildfires engulf 1,000 acres in huge blaze fueled by Santa Ana winds destroys area landmark Hodge Castle. ou can see in the video that the landmark Malibu castle was engulfed and totally ablaze despite firefighters efforts and the castle’s fire-resistant tile roof. The castle was owned by socialite Lilly Lawrence and housed a priceless memorabilia collection including some rare Elvis Presley items. Driven by fierce Santa Ana winds, the predawn wildfire swept four miles down Malibu Canyon in three hours today, burning Malibu Presbyterian church and several homes and businesses in the beachside community. The historic Malibu castle was directly in the path of the main blaze as it roared through toward the ocean. The fire also destroyed the nearby Malibu Presbyterian Church.
