Mali - EU supports long-term solutions to food insecurity

In contrast to the traditional media picture, ‘food insecurityÂ’ does not mean famine. The situation is more complex, embracing not only a lack of availability, but also a lack of means for populations to gain access to food. In the run up to World Food Day, the European Commission is releasing a broadcast report filmed in Mali. This Sahelien country, where 2.5m people suffer from ‘food insecurityÂ’, is particularly representative of the situation across West Africa. This video report show images shot in Bamako, Sévaré, Timbucktu and Ségou alongside interviews with local communities, NGOs and the Commission: Stéphane Devaux, specialist in food security, EuropeAid, European Commission MÂ’Pê Ballo, NGO Afrique Verte Mark Chapon, Vétérinaires sans frontière Seydou Idrissa Traoré, Director General, lÂ’Office du Niger Alain Houyoux, EU Delegation, Mali Alice Martin, World Food Programme
