PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine Medical Center says work has been completed to double the size of its emergency department, which the Portland hospital calls Maine's largest and busiest. The newly expanded emergency area opened on Thursday. Work to double the department to 49,000-square-feet began last year. The reconstructed facility has a helipad, central utility plant and parking garage. It also includes separate waiting and examination rooms for adults and children.
