Madonna defends mock crucifixion

Madonna defends mock crucifixion

Madonna has defended her controversial world tour after church leaders condemned the singer's onstage antics. The 47-year-old angered Christian groups on the opening night of her Confessions tour in Los Angeles when she took part in a mock crucifixion. But she has reportedly defended her stage show, saying that it was part of an appeal to her fans to donate cash to fight Aids. Madonna said: 'I don't think Jesus would be mad at me and the message I'm trying to send. 'Jesus taught that we should love thy neighbour.' During the show, images of Third World poverty were flashed up on giant screens during the track Live To Tell, with numbers representing the 12 million children orphaned by Aids in Africa. The tour comes to the UK in July, opening in Cardiff.
