Rap supremo LL Cool J has been honoured at the annual ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music awards for his outstanding contribution to hip hop. The swanky ceremony, put on by the American Society of Composer, Authors and Publishers, was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. LL picked up this year's Golden Note prize for his 20-year career and said: 'I mean I'm receiving a lifetime achievement award. 'It's kind of surreal you know? It's like a fantasy. You don't know what to take from it because it blind sides you. I'm just very thankful. I feel blessed, I feel lucky.' Other big winners included Jermaine Dupri and 50 Cent who were named songwriters of the year. R&B star Ciara also brought her goodies to the event. She hosted the show and bagged three ASCAPs at their pop awards back in May. She said: 'It's truly an honour to be in good company of talented singers, songwriters and producers. 'Co-hosting the ASCAP Awards, that's big. Also on top of that, to be acknowledged as a writer is really special to me.' Bill Withers, producer of memorable hits such as Ain't No Sunshine and Grandma's Hands, was honoured with the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award.
