[Notes:map pull out effect?]In addition to Illinois, severe flooding extends across several midwest states: Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin. [Notes:wisc] The village of Gays Mills, Wisconsin was inundated during the weekend, just 10 months after another devastating flood left residents working to rebuild homes and businesses. The swollen Kickapoo River engulfed nearly the entire town. Almost a quarter of the 625 residents have evacuated. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL STAY OR EVEN COME BACK OR EVEN THE BUSINESSES, WHAT'LL HAPPEN TO THEM.Wisconsin's governor will ask for a federal disaster declaration later this week. About 70 miles north, in Lake Delton, families are surveying the damage left behind after Lake Delton overflowed, then emptied. It swept away several homes in the process. [Notes:pool]In Elnora, Indiana, the breadth of the problem can been seen from the air. The White River has overrun it's banks--reaching 16 feet above flood stage in some places. The state got two inches of rain Monday, on top of the 11 inches received in places over the weekend [Notes:woi] Iowans continue to sandbag to try to hold back the water. The governor has declared emergencies in 31 counties. The downpours that led to all this flooding are also impacting crops. Flooded corn fields have made it difficult for farmers to plant, pushing corn prices to record highs on commodities exchanges. ___ ___, The Associated Press.
