Leonardo Di Caprio picks up peace award

Leonardo DiCaprio has been honoured for spreading the green message in his documentary The 11th Hour. He was given the International Green Film Award by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at the Cinema for Peace gala evening held alongside the Berlin International Film Festival. The documentary which he created, produced and narrated, follows on from Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth about global warming. It has contributions from over 50 politicians, scientists and environmental activists including Mr Gorbachev. The 11th Hour focusses on potential solutions to global warming through social responsibility, conservation and new technology. DiCaprio thinks individual effort is important but says people should be willing to support each other. He said: "We need to set an example for our communities and people around us but it's about supporting these new technologies. "What ever those technologies may be, you have to create an economy for that and that means if you have the opportunity if you have the means and if you so choose try to endorse newer forward thinking technologies. "The cars that most people drive today are 100-year-old technology. It's time to start endorsing these new technologies and paving the way for new people to come up with that miracle vehicle in their garage. You know we need to create incentives, create an economy for it."
