An Israeli warplane dropped leaflets on Tyre on Tuesday (August 9) blaming Hizbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah for the fighting which has claimed over a thousand lives. "To the Lebanese residents. For what reason did Hassan Nasrallah attack the State of Israel? Was it to release Lebanese detainees from Israeli jails? ..Hassan is playing with fire and Lebanon is burning. Hassan is gambling with your fate. You are paying the price for that," the leaflet read. This came a day after the Israeli army warned Tyre residents to remain indoors, urging them to not to use their cars for risk of being targeted. The streets of the southern coastal city remained deserted for a second day with residents hiding from Israeli airstrikes. At least 999 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Lebanon during four weeks of war between Israel and Hizbollah that was triggered on July 12 when the Lebanese guerrilla group captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid. Israel's security cabinet convened on Wednesday to consider whether to send troops deeper into Lebanon to fight Hizbollah guerrillas, as diplomats at the United Nations argued over a resolution that might end the war.
