Bayern Munich have fired coach Jurgen Klinsmann. The club said on its website that Jupp Heynckes would succeed Klinsmann until the end of the season. Bayern are currently third in the Bundesliga after losing 1-0 at home to Schalke 04 on Saturday. Klinsmann, 44, joined Bayern last year and stated his goals for the season were a domestic double and European success. But Bayern were dumped from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Barcelona, after being thrashed 4-0 in the first leg in Spain, and also exited the German Cup at the last eight stage. Last season's German champions are three points off the top and Saturday's defeat against Schalke piled further pressure on the former Germany coach after thousands of Bayern fans joined in chants of "Klinsmann out". The Bayern job was Klinsmann's first club position after he guided Germany to an acclaimed third place finish at the 2006 World Cup.
