Jeter Gets Hit 2,722; Passes Lou Gehrig

With a single in the third inning on Friday night, Derek Jeter passed Lou Gehrig to become the Yankees' all-time hits leader. Gehrig's old record, 2,721 hits, stood untouched for 70 years. After tying the record on Wednesday, Jeter was walked in his final at-bat by the Orioles. He came back on Friday and struck out in the first inning facing the Orioles' rookie Chris Tillman. In the third, he delivered history.
