The Government is expected to lower the age for smear tests after a review into cervical cancer. Following the death of reality TV star Jade Goody from the disease, many GPs noticed a surge in women going for smear tests and campaigners are hoping more lives will be saved if the age is lowered. Jade was just 27 when she died and it thrust the issue of cervical cancer and the age for screening into the spotlight. Only women aged 25 and over are invited for smear tests and campaigners have been lobbying to lower that age to 20. Health experts say the results of the review could affect thousands of women and potentially catch cases of cervical cancer earlier.
