Nicoletta Mantovani, wife of Italian opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti, says her husband is doing better after being admitted to hospital two days ago. Opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti, diagnosed with cancer last year, is doing better after being admitted to hospital two days ago, his wife said on Friday (August 10). Pavarotti, regarded by many as the greatest tenor of his generation, was taken to hospital with a high fever in his home town of Modena on Wednesday (August 8). He is being treated in the hospital's cancer ward. Pavarotti's wife Nicoletta Mantovani, who is 34 years his junior, told reporters her husband was doing better as she left the cancer ward on Friday morning (August 10). Manotovani, who was followed by the media as she sat for a few minutes of peace at a coffee bar with a friend, also said she expected Pavarotti to be released in the next few days. Pavarotti's wife later re-entered the hospital carrying a small box of covered pastries, although it was unlikely the opera singer will be allowed the treat of tucking into them himself.
